While those living in areas of southwest landscaping and even parts of southern landscaping many not get to enjoy the full benefits of autumn landscapes, for those living in colder climate zones, planning for autumn landscapes is half the fun of the summertime.

One of the most beautiful parts of autumn landscapes is the amazing red, green, yellow, and purple leaves that remain on the trees to create a blanket of color throughout a neighborhood.

Ash Trees Compliment Autumn Landscapes In Large Yards

If you have a large yard, White Ash or American Mountain Ash can be a perfect choice for adding to autumn landscapes.

A large yard is needed because these trees need to be planted away from the house, as their branches many not be strong enough to sustain the pressure during a heavy storm.

In the summertime, ash trees usually boast a beautifully rich green color but in the winter the leaves will first turn a vibrant yellow and then fade to a deep purple before falling off the tree.

Keep in mind that while some trees keep their fall leaves for a good period of time, the color of ash tree leaves is usually short-lived.

Beech Trees Add Animals To Autumn Landscapes

There are two different types of beech trees that can be considered for autumn landscapes. The first is the American Beechnut Tree.

Although it is similar to the European Beech Tree, one of the major differences is in the color of fall foliage, as the European Beech produces beautiful rose and light pink colored leaves while the American Beechnut produces a golden, bronze-colored leaf in autumn landscapes.

The American Beechnut Tree also produces a nut in the fall months, which is definitely an excellent choice for those who also love adding deer, birds, squirrels, and chipmunks to their autumn landscapes.

Dogwood Trees Add Color To Autumn Landscape

There are also two different types of dogwood trees, the Japanese Dogwood and the Flowering Dogwood. Some gardeners prefer the Flowering Dogwood in their autumn landscapes for the beautiful red flowers it produces in the spring and early summer months, but they also get the added benefit of deep purple or reddish-colored leaves in the fall months.

Other gardeners prefer the Japanese Dogwood for the well-known white blooms that appear in the late spring and early summer months while producing a pink or even purple-to-red color in the late fall months. Either of these dogwoods is an excellent choice for adding color to autumn landscapes.

Oak Trees Provide Plenty of Shade & Add Variety To Autumn Landscapes

There are so many different varieties of Oak Trees to choose from, and many have distinctly different colors. Oak Trees are a good choice for an addition to autumn landscapes for those yards that have lots of room.

Most of the time Oak Trees grow to be large and powerful, so placing them in a small backyard may leave no room for play. However, they are an excellent choice for a shady patio design or a deck design.
