The cold weather shouldn't let your green thumb go idle.
Just because it's cold outside and SO snowy, if you're in the northeast doesn't mean you can't keep up the green thumb you were developing all summer.
The 66 Things to grow containers post was such a hit last spring, I thought I'd write version two of things you can grow throughout the Winter.
It will be too late in the season to plant a lot of these, but depending on where you live, there's still time for a lot of them.
Or just take note for next year.
Cabbage family

Also known as Brassicaceae or Cruciferae, the cabbage family includes:
- brussels sprouts
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- romanesco
- and of course, all sorts of cabbages.

No surprise here, root vegetables are staple winter crops:
- beets
- carrots
- turnips
- rutabaga
- kohlrabi
- parsnips
- celery
- radishes (borrow from the cabbage family)
- and all kinds of potatoes

Several varieties of leafy greens even do well in the cold, including:
- kale
- spinach
- Swiss chard
- collard greens
- mache
- and certain types of lettuce.
